The Benefits of Mesquite
Producing a Caramel Flavour with a Touch of Nutiness
Mesquite is a high protein powder used for desserts, and commonly a staple in most raw food kitchens. It has beautiful caramel and nutty taste with a fine flour-like consistency, very commonly used and known as a Superfood.
As a Superfood, it contains high quantities of calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, and zinc. These are all amazing minerals, for not only vegans but any person who is lacking good quality minerals in their life. Mesquite is also rich in the amino acid lysine, it has a low GI of 25 which helps maintain stable blood sugar levels.
In its original form, it is a long thin seed pod that grows on a Mesquite tree, commonly found in hotter Central & South American climates. Traditionally ground into a fine powder and consumed.
Please don’t be confusing mesquite with BBQ seasoning. BBQ Mesquite seasoning is from the same tree but only the bark is used and not the seed pods. They each carry a different flavor and not to be confused with each other.
Mesquite flour has a beautifully sweet, caramel flavour with a touch of nuttiness. I use Mesquite any time I am trying to make a gooey caramel flavor and it is to die for. Recipes I use mesquite in are my Almond Butter Cups, Mars Bars, Twix Stix, Turtles and, Superfood Caramel Cheesecake.
